The Wee Restaurant - Edinburgh

The Wee Restaurant - Edinburgh

There is a Wee Restaurant close to the Forth Rail Bridge in North Queensferry, Fife, near Edinburgh in Scotland. And there is a Wee Restaurant in the heart of the NEW Town of Edinburgh on Frederick Street. They serve local, seasonal food made by chef Craig Wood. Open for lunch and dinner. Great wine list.

The Wee Restaurant

As well as our a la carte menu, we serve a seasonal Menu du Jour at lunchtime Tuesday to Saturday, and all evening from Tuesday to Thursday.

It's great for the lighter appetite and incredibly good value at £16 for two courses or £20 for three.

On Sundays we serve a delicious set menu priced at £17.50 for two courses and £22 for three.

Wine Dinners at The Wee Restaurant | Edinburgh Foody

Imagine it as an introduction to The Wee Restaurant, with a strong recommendation for attending a wine dinner!

We started with confit rabbit and truffle bon bon salad with boudin noir, celeriac remoulade, Reblechon cheese and a soft poached egg.

The rabbit was soft, the bon bon crispy and the boudin noir deeply savoury, whilst the remoulade was sweet.

Keep an eye on The Wee Restaurant’s website for upcoming wine dinners, or stop by for a la carte any time.

Amy was invited to sample the wine dinner at the invitation of The Wee Restaurant.

The 2017/18 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+ ).

The concise menu is French-leaning but with an abundance of Scottish produce and has recently moved to a set-price format (though their Black Isle-sourced chargrilled steaks do incur a supplement).

A main of venison haunch with Puy lentils and a confit onion cassoulet (pinched from that day’s bargain-priced and regularly updated menu du jour) is trumped by a flawlessly executed grilled sea bass with Thai broth, noodles and calamari.

The dessert menu won’t take long to peruse with just three classics featured, plus the obligatory Iain Mellis cheeseboard.

The l’Art du Vin-curated wine list is Old World-heavy and offers a decent selection at realistic prices.

Edinburgh’s city centre offers many wonderful restaurants, but we were after something really special if we were to brave the arctic conditions.

The two behind the eatery, Craig and Vikki Wood, first met at university, starting out with a North Queensferry eatery in 2006, before opening the critically acclaimed restaurant in Edinburgh’s New Town in 2016.

After a quick chat with the lovely Kirsty on where we can find the best whisky and open-fire place combination in Edinburgh, we head back out into the freezing conditions – a task now made very easy with our stomachs full, ready to face the day.

The restaurant is located in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town and just a short two-minute walk from Princes Street.

It is open Tuesday to Friday for lunch from midday to 3:45pm (Last orders at 2:00pm); Dinner from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

Ten years after the original Wee Restaurant opened in North Queensferry in 2006, Craig and Vikki Wood opened this second branch on Frederick Street in Edinburgh city centre.

‘Simple good food’ is the motto at The Wee Restaurant on Frederick Street.

The kitchen’s techniques are rooted in classic French cuisine and the sourcing is seasonal and Scottish.

The Wee Restaurant is on Frederick Street in the centre of Edinburgh.

The National Portrait Gallery, theatre district and the shops of George Street can all be walked to in less than fifteen minutes.

‘Simple good food and wine’ is the ethos of The Wee Restaurant by husband and wife team, Craig and Vikki Wood.

Following the 10-year success of The Wee Restaurant in North Queensferry (13 miles north of the city), this latest outpost brings an informal but smart bistro vibe to Edinburgh.

Craig Wood, Catering Scotland’s Chef of the Year 2015, has been at the helm of The Wee Restaurant since 2006 and although now split over two locations he remains as hands-on as possible at both sites.

Apart from the sea bass with crab risotto, which is worth returning for alone, we would make a beeline for any of the fish dishes available on the menu.

The front of house team were great, nothing was too much trouble and we later learnt that most of The Wee Restaurant team have been with them since school and worked their way up.
